On 25 September 2026, the ChromaQuest project participated in European Researchers’ Night, held across Latvia under the theme “Discover the Nature of Science!” The event brought together researchers and the public through interactive experiments, creative workshops, and hands-on activities designed to make science accessible and engaging for everyone.

As part of the event, the Department of Environmental Science at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Latvia invited visitors to explore the fascinating world of natural pigments and discover the chemistry behind the colours of nature.

Through interactive experiments, participants explored how natural pigments respond to acidic and alkaline environments, experimented with drawing on specially prepared pigment-coated paper, and observed how colours change with just a single drop. The activities also offered an opportunity to learn why berries, fruits, and flowers display such vibrant colours and how chemistry influences their appearance.

By combining science with creativity and hands-on discovery, ChromaQuest introduced visitors to the potential of natural pigments and demonstrated how the chemistry of nature can inspire curiosity, experimentation, and new perspectives on sustainable colour sources.
