At BTechPro! 2026 - a conference dedicated to advancing research in biomass processing and bioeconomy - PhD student Alise Zommere represented the ChromaQuest team with a presentation on chlorophyll extraction from conifer needles on 8th of May.
The conference brings together early-career researchers and established scientists to share results, exchange feedback, and build collaborations across biomass-related fields. With workshops, plenary lectures, and young scientist presentations, it creates a focused environment for discussing both fundamental science and applied bio-based innovations.
ChromaQuest’s contribution focused on improving extraction approaches for natural pigments from forestry by-products, aligning with the conference’s broader themes of biomass valorisation, sustainable processing, and bio-based materials. The presentation sparked discussion on extraction efficiency, solvent optimisation, and the broader potential of conifer-derived chlorophyll as a renewable resource in bio-based applications.
Special thanks to the organisers - Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry (LSIWC) - for creating a supportive and high-quality environment that meaningfully contributes to the development and motivation of early-career researchers, strengthening both collaboration and the overall student research experience.
