FORTHEM Food Science Lab meeting

On 8-9 June 2026, the University of Latvia hosted the FORTHEM Food Science Lab meeting in Riga, bringing together researchers from partner universities in France, Spain, Poland, and Latvia. The event focused on current developments in food science and nutrition, with presentations and discussions covering food quality and authenticity, sustainable raw materials, bioactive compounds, and nutrition-related research.

As part of the scientific programme, a presentation was given on the ChromaQuest project, introducing the research team and its activities in the field of natural pigments. The presentation focused on recent work related to chlorophyll recovery from spruce needles, including the utilisation of forestry biomass as a source of natural green pigments and the development of extraction approaches for pigment recovery. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange research ideas, discuss potential collaborations, and explore future joint research initiatives within the FORTHEM network.
